Dentures replace teeth that have been lost or are loose and at risk of falling out. Although no one enjoys losing their natural teeth, dentures will restore your ability to speak and eat normally. Dentures not only improve the appearance of your smile by replacing missing teeth, they also prevent your facial muscles from sagging and affecting your appearance.
Types of Dentures
There are two main types of dentures. Full, or complete, dentures are used when all the natural teeth are missing or have been removed. Partial dentures are used when some natural teeth still remain in your mouth.
Denture fitting and Wear
When we design dentures for a patient, we begin with examining the mouth and deciding which teeth will need to be removed. Those teeth are then extracted and impressions are taken to design dentures that fit your mouth and your remaining teeth.
After your dentures have been produced, we’ll check how they fit. There’s an adjustment period as you get used to wearing dentures, and we will make small adjustments to make sure they fit perfectly. Once you become used to the dentures, the functionality and appearance of your mouth will be back to normal.
Implant Supported Dentures
Properly-fitted dentures will fit your mouth comfortably and securely with a minimum of shifting. For patients who desire a higher level of stability we provide implant-supported dentures. These dentures are attached to dental implants that are placed in your jaw so they are very stable and secure.
